Wakehurst, rain and sun

Lovely morning drawing and painting with Jenny and Sandra in Wakehurst. It was a shame Jenny had to go home when the rain came down, Sandra and I stayed under a very large birch tree and drew some more trees. It then turned into a very sunny day, nice for drawing and taking pictures.

bits and pieces

There are lots of things happening and lots of things happened, but first I will show you the lovely drawing Jenny did last Friday,  we are doing some more today so those images will follow later.
I will also ask her for a better picture, high resolution is always good !

Christine Hopkins Came over for a days printmaking, she had a very good result with the lithography plates and brought me some lovely sunflowers.

I did some drawing as well when Christine was there and created two more images in the garden theft series, I love the little person and the lovely seeds.

Yesterday Jean and I went to Lewes, what a lovely town, we saw lots of art , Artwave was on, lots of art in public buildings , some of it was lovely, met Sheila Marlborough who has, with her husband Peter, an exhibition at the
Hop Gallery, very, very good work.
We also went to the Foundry Gallery here we met Shirley Trevena and where I fell in love with one of Shirley's paintings oh dear !

Today was a wonderful day for drawing, first Sandra , Jean Carolyn and Jenny met at Wakehurst and drew some more trees, the birch trees do come in an amazing variety , from pink to green to red and white and some with very strange bark see below.

lovely tree with a charming face, lovely eyelashes.

I did three drawings and used lots of different media, charcoal, pen and ink, coloured pens and my lovely Rotring Art pen, which is lovely if you spray some water over it.

After Wakehurst I did some painting in the bookshop, Chloe was back from Chile its really nice to have her back, and in her honour I drew some chillies and her flag, ah well !

Today Ruth and I went to the Sainsbury Wing at the National Gallery, it was sunny before we went into the Colour Exhibition, which was very interesting , and it had rained a lot when we came out.
The blue cockerel was rather nice in blue.

The Crypt was a nice place for lunch !

Then we went to Cass art bought some art stuff , of course !

And then on to Oxford Street and John Lewis, where we went on the the roof terrace, very high for me, but a great place to take pictures.

Matisse, Malevich and poppies at the Tower

Today Carolyn and I went to London, it was a beautiful day and after looking at the Matisse at the Tate , which was just wonderful, we went and had a look at the Malevich also at the Tate. Avery good exhibition, on the whole the impression of those two painters was one of joy and one of sadness.  They both died of cancer but worked creatively to the end.   They produced some stunning works of art.

After the Tate we took the RV1 bus to the Tower of London where thousands of ceramic poppies are planted in the moat around the Tower, the whole place was crowded with millions of tourists and zillions of bikes actually the whole of that part of town was full of bikes, every one was enjoying themselves.
The poppies looked quite amazing I bought one but won't receive it until after the 11th of November.

Yesterday I printed Jo Hall's wonderful litho print.
I also printed Annie Ridd's lovely print.

Then I created a small print and printed it on fabric, and on ticking it works very well.  And a large print worked well too, I might embroider on top of the the fabric.
